R&R: So, you're in L.A. now, but you were scouted from your hometown of St. Louis, Missouri just less than a year ago. What was it like growing up there?
Madisen: It's definitely totally different from L.A. I grew up in a small town right outside of St. Louis, and my whole family lives no more than 20 minutes away from each other. It's really cool, and I do miss it at times. Traffic in L.A. has definitely got St. Louis beat. The street lights turn off at 11 at home!
Ryan: Like me, you're a girl who likes to create opportunities for yourself. Can you tell us how competing in pageants helped you do that?
Madisen: My sister, Lacie, actually started doing pageants before I did and, after watching her, it seemed like a lot of fun--so I decided to try it out. They can really help a person improve in their speaking abilities and self- confidence. Oh, and the scholarships are lovely, as well!
R&R: We've heard you called a "Triple Threat" (you can sing, dance AND act!); do you think this has helped give you a competitive edge in your career, and how?
Madisen: Of course! I started as a competitive dancer then began singing in the competitions, as well. Slowly after, I started being involved in community theater. All of these things involve success but also disappointment, and in this business, you have to be prepared for the best and the worst because you never know what might happen next!
Ryan: You know I'm considered a "triple threat," too!
Randi: Yeah, but only after you eat the burrito special at "El Pollo Loco!" Anyway…back to Madisen! You know we love High School Musical (Ryan loves Troy, and I love Sharpay and Ryan's wardrobes!) Tell us about your HSM "AHA!" moment...
Madisen: Well, I always knew I had to have a career involving dance, singing, or acting, but originally my goal was Broadway. But when HSM came out, I realized that I could do all of those things in the TV/Film world, so I immediately told my mom that's what I wanted to do and shortly after, we started working on it and now I'm living in L.A. pursuing it!
Ryan: Aside from your music and dancing, you have become quite the "commercial queen" in Hollywood--talking up everything, from the All-Star Cheer Squad Wii Game to Nesquik, TV Land Prime Time, and even charitable causes like the Stand Up To Cancer Public Announcement. Do you have to really use or believe in something to represent it? (or he could ask—"Do you really use all that stuff?")
Madisen: Well, each commercial I have done has come from an audition. I think you definitely should be interested in it or believe in it in order for you to be able to successfully advertise whatever it may be. After all, that's the job of a commercial!
R&R: You have a new album out now with a lot of cool, fun dance beats--do you have a fave?
Madisen: Actually, my full album will be out later this year with some new music that I am very excited about! My fave so far would probably be 'Suga'. My dancers and I all have a great time performing that song, and I did my first music video for it!
Randi: My fave is "Crazy Crazy"--you remind me of a young Britney Spears in this one! Would you consider her one of your influences?
Madisen: I'm not sure if there is one person doing the pop/dance style of music that doesn't consider her one of their influences. She is such an amazing performer. One of her concerts was actually the first concert I ever went to!
R&R: We know that you co-wrote "Crazy Crazy" with your talented talent manager, Jonathan George. Have you collaborated on song-writing with any other artists?
Madisen: I have not collaborated with any other artists yet, but hopefully in the near future I will!
R&R: So, you have toured with Radio Disney's Incubator Artist, Tyler Shamy. We think he is SOooo yummy! What is it like hanging out with him?
Madisen: Tyler was definitely a lot of fun to hang out with! I don't know how many YouTube videos were made of us and the other dancers acting completely goofy. It was an awesome time and a lot of great memories were made.
R&R: Thank you so much for your time, Madi! Is there anything else we don't know about you that you think we should?
Madisen: I think you covered it all, but I am doing a school tour starting in May so make sure to check out the dates on my MySpace and follow me on Twitter. Thanks guys!
