Taylor Beckett
R&R: Wow—you’re a singer, songwriter, actress AND dancer—what came first? Is there one you think you are better at than the others?

Taylor: Definitely the singing! Since my mom was a teacher, I got involved with plays and musical theatre when I was 4-5 years old.

R&R: You’ve performed all over the U.S. and Mexico City, but you’re originally from El Paso, Texas. We hear that the boys there are “muy caliente”—is that true?

Taylor: They are cute there, but much cuter here! There is more of a variety here in LA—the boys come from everywhere!

R&R: The song you wrote, “On My Space”—was it about a certain boy? Do you really find it easier to connect online or in person?

Taylor: Yes, this was about a boy from Texas—my first real crush in middle school. We would talk on the phone or on the computer, but in person I was afraid of talking to boys so I would just clam up! Now I prefer talking to someone in person, because it is easier to read them when you can see their reactions.

Ryan: We see that you are a regular on the TV show “Gene Simmons: Family Jewels”—what is he like on set, and is his tongue REALLY that long?

Taylor: Gene is actually one of the coolest, most down-to-earth people I’ve worked with. He is very approachable, and loves to give advice. And yes, his tongue really IS that long! He always is doing tricks to show us—it’s creepy, but cool!

Randi: Girl, I saw you as a finalist on “Quien Tienne Estrella?” (Mexico’s version of “America’s Got Talent”)—you know I’m a struggling singer, myself...

Ryan: —Yeah, “struggling” is exactly how I would describe it)

Randi: ANYway, what advice would you give to another diva reaching for her own “estrella?”

Taylor: I would definitely say that you should know how to take constructive criticism, but you also have to listen to yourself. This business can rip you apart if you let it—you have to constantly build yourself back up.

Ryan:

Taylor:, I’ve seen you at nearly every party in town—what’s your secret for getting invited?

Taylor: Well, a lot of them are industry parties. Since I am in a recurring role on television now, that kind of makes me a legitimate invite—I have been busy with a lot of these recently!

R&R: Your style reflects an array of musical influence—from Pop, to R&B, Rock, Country and Latin. Which is your personal fave—what is on your iPod right now?

Taylor: I prefer to sing a bit more country and R&B; Country always tells a story. With those kinds of music, you can really change a person’s day—they really help you connect with your audience. My iPod has quite a diverse mix— Country, Rock, Colbie Caillat—everything!

R&R: You rocked the crowd at the “Inspire a Little Love Event” to help raise awareness for those suffering from depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide; you were also at the Kids 4 Kids Cancer Run/Walk—which charity means the most to you and for what reason?

Taylor: Cancer research is near and dear to my heart because of my best friend, who died of cancer. In fact, I wrote “I Miss You in the Rain” for her.

R&R: Where do you hope to be in 20 years—do you still hope to be in the entertainment industry?

Taylor: I definitely hope to still be in the industry! In the next 10 years, I would love to win a Grammy and have a #1 song. I want to have a very long career—like Celine Dion and Christina Aguilera, who are constantly reinventing themselves. I always want to bring something new to my fans.
